Welcome to the PORTREE RIDING CLUB Website

Most events are held at the large indoor arena at Portree Livery Stables. The stables are at Garalapin, about 2 miles from Portree just off the B885 to Struan.

We welcome new members, both Senior (age 17 years and over) and Junior (age 7 to 16 years). We offer a wide range of fun and educational activities for all ages and abilities: e-mail the secretary for an application form, or download one now by clicking here. You can then print it out!

Equine Makeovers ready for the showing season
This will be held at Woodend from 10.30am to 12.30 pm. on 14th June.
Mel has kindly agreed to bring Smartie along and Donna will also be making over Fergus as our guinea pigs.
This will be a fun couple of hours full of tips and helpful hints to get everyone going for the summer shows.
Please let the secretary know if you will be attending by 6pm Friday 12th June by e-mail or phone.

Riders Makeover on 28.06.09 - this has had to be moved from 21.06.09 apologies for that.
Same venue and times as the Equine Makeovers, another fun session.
Sarah Nicolson and Mel D. have very kindly agreed to be our victims!
Come along and see if you have been committing any show ring gaffes!
Please let the secretary know if you will be attending by Friday 21st June by e-mail or phone.

EQUINE DENTAL CLINIC on date TBA - Keith Chandler has agreed to come across and hold a Dental Clinic for our horses. We need to confirm numbers with him so that dates can be arranged and he can work out the number of vets he needs to send across to carry out the work.
We have had lots of positive feedback on Kessock Equine Vets.
He has estimated the costs to be £35-40 per animal and a share of the travel costs.
Places are normally limited to 8 animals per vet and we have opted for Woodend as our venue as this helps to keep the costs down if we are all at one site. Apparently this is becoming common practice amongst the riding clubs in remote areas and he is delighted to assist us. So if you want your horse's teeth checked out please let Gail Ross know ASAP so she can get back to Keith.

JUNIOR CAMP
This was to run from 7-9th July but Jnr members highlighted that they will be attending camp in the outer isles so the dates have been amended to 21st-23rd July.
It can be attended as a 3 day camp or on an individual daily basis. The camp runs from 10am to 4pm each day.
This camp will cover all aspects of flat work, jump work, stable management and equine welfare will be covered. Members will need to bring their own packed lunches and appropriate clothing must be worn. Please contact Donna Long if you require any additional information.
Cost agreed of £20.00 per day or £50.00 for three days.
All places must be reserved through the Secretary on a Club Booking Form and monies paid beforehand. Places are limited.
Closing date for bookings is 10th July 2009.

Training Day with Clare Molyneux at Woodend 12th July.
Please complete and return Booking Forms by Sunday 5th July. Use standard form and mark on lessons that you require.
Payment to be made on the day, by cash to either Gail or Maggie, before lessons commence.
Lunch arrangements to be ‘bring a plate of something’ as this has proved so successful.

Open Summer Show on 19.07.09 (10.30 a.m. start).
The entry form is now available and can be downloaded here. Please feel free to print copies off (there are 2 pages) and circulate them to anyone who may be interested: the show is open to both members and non-members. A copy is being sent to each member direct and other copies will be available at local stores and Harbro etc. Closing date for postal entries is 10th July 2009. Note: entries can also be made on the day but the entry fee will be higher.
We have secured the services of an excellent judge who comes highly recommended by other riding clubs, Mrs Marion MacLennan from Croy. Mrs MacLennan is experienced in judging WH/Ridden/Inhand. She will be south judging in Cumbria just before our show.
Entry fees have gone up to keep us in line with other clubs, especially as we hope to use our show as one of our sources of fund raising. There is a class for everyone so as many people as possible, no matter what level they are at, can take part.
Please tell everyone you know who may be interested about our show as (I repeat) it is open to both members and non-members.

Club trip to the Black Isle Show on 05.08.09
At the last Members' meeting, members present thought it was a good idea to go away for the day together by minibus and watch the often overlooked equine events that take place on the Wednesday before the main show day.
MC has offered to drive the school minibus and make a provisional booking for us.
We need to know the exact numbers of those that wish to come as places are restricted and will be allocated on a first come basis.
If you would like to attend please let the secretary know by Wednesday 17th June so that MC and GR can work out exact costings etc.

If a Booking Form is needed for any event, click here to open a form on a separate page.
Note: The form may look odd on screen but prints out OK.

If members need accommodation for their pony / horse for any of these events they should contact Anne or Graham Long at the Livery Yard to discuss their requirements.
